Last week in Russia…

Last week Julie's parents (Garry and Jenny Kerr) arrived from Melbourne to help with baby duties (and visit Luxembourg of course), so I flew off to Russia for 4 days to visit customers in Moscow and St.Petersburg. Moscow is an insane city of 14 million people and the worst traffic jams I have ever seen. St.Petersburg, just beautiful. Above is some great photos I took of Russia, however my favourite photo is the one I took of the bridge (second from right). I flew home to Lux via Copenhagen, and as you come in to land at the airport, there is a great view of the bridge between Sweden and Denmark. Cars are driving along the bridge and then it changes from bridge to tunnel and disappears into the ocean. It's then a 4km underwater drive to the Danish mainland. For more info on this amazing bridge / tunnel project, please click here: http://www.denmarkfacts.com/swedentodenmarkbridge.html

It is well worth reading.

Busy week…

Mia came home for the first time yesterday (Monday afternoon). Unfortunately it was a difficult night as Mia slept through the day but was awake most of last night, with Julie and I getting only a couple of hours sleep. This morning I fly to Russia for a sales trip and I am there until Friday night. We have arranged it so that I am away whilst Julie's parents are here, and fortunately they arrive this afternoon in Lux after their long trip from Melbourne. Here is a photo of our family of 4 taken last night. Please click to see larger versions.

Mia – Day 4

It’s Sunday night in warm Luxembourg (29 degrees today and still 23 tonight at 8.40pm). The past few days have gone very quickly, but have been very rewarding. The second and third nights were tough as Mia’s tummy was getting used to digesting the breast milk. I stayed in the hospital on those nights as Mia was waking regularly and it is certainly easier with the two of us sharing the load in the middle of the night. Please click on these photos below to see medium sized versions, and then click again for extra large versions.

Big Sister takes charge…

Sunday morning update. Mia is now in her 3rd day. It has been tough going as the first few days always are. I stayed at the hospital on night two and three which really helped Jules. Last night Gab had a great time when one of the lovely midwives provided her with a sling to carry Mia around. Click the video to play.

Mia Isabelle Jago

Mia&MumMia-fullMia-closeMia&DadMia-&-Gab

Baby Mia Isabelle Jago was born on June 24th at 4.15 pm Lux time. She weighs 4.5kg’s and is 56cm long. She started life with the cord wrapped around her neck (twice) and was quite purple on arrival. But she soon pinked up and got her lungs shouting. She is a big, healthy girl. Mum Julie was a star. A very long and tough day for her and she did a magnificent job.  As you can see below we started the day at 6am at hospital, and it was around 10 hours from then until the birth.

Update

It's now just after 2pm and we still have a long way to go. After the inducing gel(s), (they gave Jules two of them in quick succession) the pain was just too intense as the contractions were coming every couple of minutes which was unbearable over a short period. So, about half an hour ago, at Julies request, Dr. Borsi gave her an epidural, which has eased the intense pain and we are back to normality.

It Begins…

Julie and I arrived at the hospital at 6am this morning (the Doctors choice of time, not ours of course :-)

Today is inducing day. The first hour has been Julie resting with the fetal heart monitor (see pic left). It will be interesting to see how long it takes after the induction gel is used.

Gab’s Clarinet Concert

Last night, Gab performed a Clarinet piece at her school music concert (with a piano accompaniment). She sounded great. Please click the video to see her performance. Finally, she also designed their program hand out, so she has been busy.

38 Weeks

Julie is now 38 weeks and June 12th is coming up fast. As you can see left, our bub is now very big, and is also very active, with lots of kicking and bouncing around inside.

We are looking forward to the big day and given that I have to travel to France this week for business, we are hoping labour doesn't come early.

Please keep an eye on my blog in the coming weeks as I will post photos as soon as our big day arrives.
