Today (Sat March 14th) I visited the city of Cologne (spelt Koln in German). About a 30 minute drive from Willich, autobahn most of the way. A beautiful city with a towering cathedral (Dom) in the centre of town. I noticed as I was looking at the cities postcards, many references to the second world war. It seems Koln got smashed during the war but the cathedral towers remained by some miracle. Shown here are a couple of photos I downloaded to show the cathedral of today and circa 1945.
To see the devastation of Koln during the war, check out this You Tube clip I found from the History channel. It shows just what a hammering Koln took.
